Job description
Virya Energy, founded in 2019 through the strategic partnership of Colruyt Group and its majority shareholder Korys, is a Belgian pioneer in sustainable energy solutions. Our activities span the complete energy value chain, from renewable energy development in Europe and Asia to energy distribution through DATS 24. Our portfolio encompasses our consolidated wind activities (formerly Eoly in Belgium and Eurowatt in France), solar energy projects, sustainable hydrogen development, and strategic investments in specialized energy industry services providers like GeoXYZ, DotOcean, and Marlinks.
Building on over two decades of wind energy expertise and pioneering work in sustainable hydrogen, we continue to expand our capabilities. At our headquarters, a growing team of professionals drives our development across all renewable energy sectors, delivering tailored energy solutions that accelerate the energy transition.
In light of its further international business expansion, Virya Energy is seeking to reinforce its Legal Team with a Regulatory Counsel. This role will focus on enhancing the team’s expertise in energy law and supporting the group’s ambition in the renewable energy transition.
Your responsabilities:
Monitor and interpret developments in European and national energy regulatory frameworks and assess their impact on Virya Energy and its entities.
Provide legal support across a broad range of commercial and regulated energy contracts, including (C)PPAs, grid connection agreements, energy supply contracts, ancillary services contracts, hydrogen offtake contracts, EMS contracts, BESS contracts, EV charging agreements, and others.
Provide legal support to operational teams in the development of renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on securing land tenure, drafting collaboration contracts with other developers, obtaining various administrative authorizations and building permits, as well as resolving appeals against administrative authorizations or any other disputes that may arise in the context of the development of this type of project in Belgium. In general, you will provide legal advice to operational teams on urban planning (permitting), real estate and contract law.
Collaborate with the Energy Market Team to identify and develop power market opportunities, by offering regulatory insight and strategic input.
Collaborate with the Public Affairs Team to ensure Virya Energy’s representation and the advance of its interests within European and national sector associations, TSO working groups and industry forums, and to keep internal stakeholders informed on relevant regulatory changes and provide practical guidance.
Engage with energy regulators, grid operators and other public and private stakeholders.
Participate in international business development and M&A transactions, supporting from a regulatory and permitting perspective throughout due diligence and negotiation phases.
Job requirements
You hold a Master’s degree in Law, a postgraduate specialization in energy law is a plus.
We welcome candidates with up to 5 years of experience, ideally with exposure to the energy sector—either in-house or at a reputable law firm. We also encourage applications from those with an academic background in energy law who are eager to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.
You are knowledgeable on Belgian and European energy law and policy.
You are passionate about renewable energy, solution-oriented, and pragmatic with a hands-on mindset.
You manage multiple tasks efficiently, pay attention to detail, and work well with diverse stakeholders thanks to your strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
You act with integrity and take ownership of the legal aspects of complex projects.
Fluency in Dutch or French, with the ability to work and draft in the other national language as well as in English.
To be eligible for this role, you reside in Belgium and hold a valid work permit.
Offer:
A full-time job and an open-ended contract (no consulting).
A challenging position that enables you to be involved in innovative and ambitious projects, to interact with sector experts and to directly contribute to renewable energy projects and climate goals.
An attractive salary package that takes your experience and performance into account.
Benefits such as a green company car, meal vouchers, mobile phone with subscription, group insurance and hospitalization insurance for you and your family members.
